Police Chief’s Report - August 2025

New School Year

Summer has quickly come to an end, and our new school year has started. Please be mindful of increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Let’s all do our part in getting our children to and from school safely. Please obey our hard-working Crossing Guards throughout the community.

Making Improvements

Improving a local police department like the Crofton Police Department depends a lot on the community needs and existing practices. Drawing on proven strategies can be a powerful first step. Here is a small sample of ideas for the future of the Crofton Police Department:

  1. Strengthening Community Engagement

We continue to build trust through active citizen engagement. We are currently building a new informative and accessible Crofton Police Department website. The website will contain crime reports and statistics as well as upcoming community events.

We regularly host events such as Coffee with the Chief, Trunk or Treat, Ride Along Programs, as well as attend various community functions. We want to foster an open dialogue with our residents. My office door is always open.

  2. The Use of Data Driven Patrol Resources

Technology in law enforcement is ever changing. The Anne Arundel County Police Department has launched a Real-Time Information Center (RTIC), a state-of-the-art facility designed to improve public safety, crime prevention, and emergency response. The center serves as a centralized intelligence hub using advanced technology to provide officers with real-time data to respond more effectively to incidents across the county.

The RTIC integrates real-time situational awareness platforms, security cameras, license plate readers, and data analytics to monitor critical incidents as they unfold. By providing instant, actionable intelligence, the center enables officers to proactively address crime, mitigate public safety threats, and improve response times.

Here at the Crofton Police Department, we are investigating the use of Flock Safety License Plate Readers (LPR) and live video cameras on entryways into the community. These LPR’s scan for stolen vehicles, identify vehicles associated with criminal activity, and send out alerts to local law enforcement. We will be conducting a 60-day trial of the Flock Safety License Plate Readers and Live Cameras hopefully beginning in late September. Our plan is to join forces and share information with Anne Arundel County Police Department who already have 70 Flock Safety License Plate Readers throughout Anne Arundel County.

Challenge Coins

We quickly sold out of our first ever Crofton Police Department Challenge Coins. We have a new order in-house and have another round of coins available for sale. They are $15.00 per coin and are available on the CCA website or you can come to Town Hall during normal business hours and pick one up. Proceeds will go towards our 3 rd Annual Trunk or Treat.

Crofton Police Department’s 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat

Our 3 rd Annual Trunk or Treat will be held on October 24 th , 2025, at Village Green from 6pm to 8pm. This event continues to grow, and it is one of our favorites. We are again asking our local businesses, local politicians, and our community to be involved.
